Problem

In Latvia, many children are not heard nor understood. Adults do not listen to or understand their children. They lack knowledge and experience, and there is little information available. This results in frustrated children, aggressive behavior, and confusion. These behavioral traits affects their ability to learn in school, and makes it more difficult for these children to communicate their wants and needs.

Solution

The goal of the project Iepazīsti Bērnu (Get to know your child) is to work on preventing the causes, rather than fix the consequences of the problem. Dana identified the gap in the educational system and child upbringing, the period, where parents don't hear or understand the child needs and created the program for parents and children on how to close that gap. The project “Get to know your child” allows parents to understand their child from both psychological and physiological perspective, while learning how to provide the best support for their child specifically.

Eventually Dana joined group of parents with whom they established a school - Cēsu Jaunā skola, became the principal of this school and implemented innovative solutions changing the existing approach to the education system.
