Edita Gilė

VIKINGŲ KAIMAS

"Viking village“ presents an innovative method for teaching history via experiential education.

Problem

In Lithuania, many children experience low quality of education in history. There is little to no motivation to improve it since history teachers and specialists in the field are not paid well and do not have an incentive to fight for better education within the field. Although museums help offset the high cost of history education, only five percent use it and the interest in museums continues to decline.

Solution

Searching for an innovative method for teaching history, Edita Gilė created a Viking village which lets children experience historical events for themselves. The goal for the Viking village is to make history accessible for the entire education system, along with professionals and families. Edita´s vision is to increase the prestige for historical museums, thereby increasing their quality. This would enable more children to get a quality education in history.
