Løvetannakademiet

Working with youth who have been within the child welfare system, Løvetannakademiet’s aim is that youth manage the transition from youth to adulthood. Many teenagers who have been in foster care often lack necessary life skills to manage by themselves after turning 18.

Problem

Children who are within the child welfare system rarely get enough necessary information about what awaits them, after turning 18. Studies show that youth who have declined further support from the child welfare system, after turning 18, are more likely to drop out of school, suffer from substance abuse, depression and social exclusion. Many also lack the most basic skills needed to function as independent adults.

Solution

Løvetannakademiet focuses on equipping youth with the life skills needed in order to succeed in adulthood. They offer motivational courses where teenagers aged 16 – 18 get information about the way the support system functions after they turn 18; why they benefit from staying within the system; as well as create an awareness of the responsibility they hold in creating their future. In addition, they offer a life skills course, for young adults aged 18 - 23 where they are trained within several topics, such as personal finance, health and healthy cooking.
